What Stockwood Pete says about Temple Meads reminds me of walking down the Incline and waiting for a bus to Knowle at one of the stops along Temple Gate (service 3 then). There was never enough shelter and the pavement was narrow. I don't remember when the manned ticket barriers were removed from the station so that it become "open", but this only lasted a few years until gates were introduced. I do remember an exit from the subway into Cattle Market Road. It was only an exit and you could not get into the station that way, but there was a manned booth with a ticket collector. And even back then that bit of stream was colloquially known as 'Bears Brook' and apart from high dry summers or multiple day downpours pretty much fits the description of a brook (shallow stream easily forded with a typically rocky bed). <br />There is an old turn of the last century photo of the Wells Road/Airport Road junction which i have seen that did refer to the crossing as 'Bears Bridge' it was being sold at a stall in St Nicks market. <br />I would also like to point out that the 'St Ann' in your blog is actually called 'St Anne's Park' as there was an old Victorian park in the wooded valley. The other schemes within the programme are also on track for completion by March 2017. <br /><br />• In early September the Local Enterprise Partnership approved the Council’s application to revise the spend profiles and key milestones of the programme to accommodate changes to the delivery of schemes required by: <br />o the need to integrate with the Arena Project; <br />o design changes to the Temple Circus scheme in response to the successful consultation; <br />o and, the need to coordinate delivery of Temple Circus alongside the MetroBus projects. <br /><br />• Feasibility and design work undertaken since the Cabinet decision has required reassessment of the proposed schemes in terms of priority as further detail regarding the costs of schemes revealed that not all could be delivered with the funding available. You can see that even with a thirty limit lots of drivers trigger the speed warning sign on the southbound side. But much of the road space is taken up by on-street parking and the two or three traffic islands create chicanes that vehicles swerve round. I`m wondering what effect a new bus stop just SOUTH of Longreach Grove will have - could create all sorts of hazards.<br /><br />Anyway, the transport planners have ruled that Sturminster Road will remain at 30mph, so you get your way, and I imagine that every side road along there will have to be `gated` with new speed limit signs. It should remain 30 if not be raised to 40! The trouble is when the limit is too slow along roads like this drivers loose concentration by effectively getting bored of going so slow! Making this 20mph will add to congestion at peak times as well as potentially causing accidents!
